More information than anybody could possibly ever want to know about this blogger:
Becky Green Aaronson
A few titles I hold: wife and mom, author, guest blogger, photo agency director, marathon runner, triathlete, coach, book-lover, chocolate addict, hopeless romantic, fan of fermented grapes, worshipper of quiet moments and adventure-filled days, lover of friends, family, and gatherings that bring them all together, and the grateful recipient of numerous improbable moments that have swirled into this wonderfully dizzying thing I call my life.
A few reasons I write: Because I discovered long ago that I cannot not write. That I’m compelled to dance with words in some form or another, even if I’m just scribbling down musings for myself. And like Anais Nin said, “I write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospection.” That is what this blog is all about.
A few places my writing has been published:
Magazines: Runner’s World, Adventure Cyclist Magazine, Marathon & Beyond, The Ultimate Runner, Edible Santa Barbara, Aspen Magazine, Santa Barbara Independent.
Books: Steve & i: One Photographer’s Improbable Journey with Steve Jobs
Or click here to see the Steve & i website and learn more about this ebook!
Other sources: American Society of Media Photographers, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, guest blogs.
A few memorable things I’ve experienced in my life thus far: Venturing to
Mt. Everest Base Camp in Tibet. Running the Rome Marathon on my honeymoon. Traveling to South Africa soon after Nelson Mandela was released from prison. Completing my first Ironman Triathlon, Peddling through the Colorado Rockies on a 400-mile cycling odyssey. Ringing in the New Year in Times Square after 9/11. Raising a substantial bundle of moolah for cancer research. Teaching my young daughter how to throw like a boy and boogie board like a girl.
A few of my favorite books: To Kill a Mockingbird, The Book Thief, Peace Like a River, Little Bee, The Power of One, The Help, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Kaffir Boy, The Geography of Bliss, Middlesex, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, The Autobiography of Henrietta Lacks, Palace Walk: The Cairo Trilogy (this is but a tiny portion of a very long list).
A few musicians I like: Beatles, Stones, U2, Bob Dylan, R.E.M., Bruce Springsteen, Train, Iggy Pop, Adele, Lady Gaga, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Motown, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Pavarotti
A few places I’ve lived: Pacific Northwest, Colorado Rockies, California Coast.
A few places I do my best thinking: Insanely early mornings at my desk when the moon and the stars light up my creative spirit and shine down on my computer and my extra-large cup of coffee. Also long runs while blasting my favorite tunes, and long luxurious writing sessions in the red chaise lounge in my back yard (eek, I can feel my chiropractor cringing right now).
A few things I wish I were better at: Being patient, not letting perfect get in the way of completed, and being able to cook an exquisite meal like I was born with a chef’s hat on my head.
A few of my favorite quotes:
“The human mind is like an umbrella. It functions best when open.” –Max Gropius
“The harder I work, the luckier I become.”
“Don’t die wondering.”
“Kindness is my only religion.”–The Dalai Lama
“Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire.” –Reggie Leach
“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become.” –Buddha
“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”–Joseph Chilton Pierce
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” ~William Wordsworth
A Bazillion Things That Make Me Happy and Grateful (this list probably says more about me than anything)
