Thanks Melissa. Thankfully, Jeffrey's memory is laser sharp so when I interview him for each story and ask him specific questions, he's able to recall it like it was yesterday (especially if it was a memorable event). He often laughs because he's TERRIBLE at remembering names, but he can remember other minutia from a decade ago without too much effort. I take notes and record every interview with him to make sure I get it down just right. And don't worry, I've gotten plenty of credit over the years for my behind-the-scenes work in running our business and supporting Jeffrey in what he does. He is quite appreciative of all that I do, and equally supportive of all my various projects.

Since you were a reporter, I'm sure you can relate to much of what Jeffrey has experienced over the years...the good, the bad and the beautiful!

Another amazing story. How do you ever remember all these details? They make the story, and the picture you chose at the top, come alive. Did you go with Jeffrey on this adventure? If not, I'm so happy to see you in a photo with him at the end! You deserve credit too. Everyone knows a successful husband wouldn't get very far without a supportive (and accomplished) wife.

I was wondering how the whole thing was going to unveil, with the bribes... and I was thrilled to read that Jeffrey was "disgusted," and held his ground. Way to go!

I used to be a reporter, and though nowhere near Jeffrey's level (by a MILE), I still encountered the same sort of situation. You think you are doing something for such great reasons, and that should be enough to allow you access -- but there's always someone waiting at the end of the line with their hand out. I applaud Jeffrey for finding an even better shot, and you, for sharing this story.

Thank you Deborah. This photograph stands on its own, but I wanted to share the story behind it because most people can never imagine what it takes to create photographs like this. Photojournalists often have to navigate the twists and turns of personalities, cultures, geography and logistics just to make one image.

What a fine photo and story! To me, a photograph is 1 part memory --the past crystalized forever in the now, in this moment in time, and 1 part back-story --a deeper history that carries through the past-present and future...

A captured moment is a story all its own; the added dimension of your back-story only enriches this breathtaking, almost surreal photo.

Nice pics as always!!
But for me the best part of your post is - "When Jeffrey refuse to give the donation & said- his only donation would be making a photograph that would show the beauty and magnificence of their mosque. And that donation will contribute to the book, which would raise money for the African AIDS Education Fund–yet another donation. If that is not enough, then he would not be able to photograph inside.”
It shows that Jeffrey never compromise with his ethics to get the job done.

I couldn't agree more! I thought you might enjoy seeing yourself in the spotlight! That was a great project for all of you.
